Art Club members are invited to a premier of Neil Harvey's short film Paris-BreathlessWeekend.
The Premier is happening March 20th at the Open Projector Night film festival at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids. This 12 minute film is the result of the club's enthusiastic response to my Pecha Kucha presentation in the fall of 2022. The film was completed in January and in our first weeks of sending it out to film festivals, to our utter amazement, it has been selected to show at Open Projector Night, Grand Rapids and has won two international awards!!
I hope to see you there! Neil Harvey

We will invite a local, established artist, to speak of and/or demonstrate their process of creating/marketing their art, among many other topics, in a public setting. This is open to everyone, members and nonmembers and is free, so spread the word!
Our first guest speaker will be Paulette Carr. Many of us know Paulette, as she has become a vibrant force in our art community. Paulette wears many hats, as the creative whirlwind, that she is. One of those hats is our very own committee head of Gallery 602, along with Carol Kreher and Christi Dreese, with whom she shares the duties of the Holland Hospital gallery . The tentative subject of her talk will be the importance of getting and staying involved, in our/your communities, by way of the arts. Opening Exhibition: Thursday, September 7, 4 - 6pm We invite you to join us, September 7, for the opening reception of our September pocket gallery showcasing various acrylic paintings by Carolyn Jeffers. South Haven Center for the Arts, 600 Phoenix Street, South Haven, MI 49090 About the artist: Carolyn Jeffers started painting and taking many art classes in middle and high school. In the mid nineties, after taking some time away from art, getting married, and starting a family, she attended a decorative painting class that her friend was teaching and fell in love with the art process all over again. After this she joined the Michigan Grapevine Decorative Painters chapter, and went to state and national painting conventions. Dabbling in watercolor before ultimately deciding that she was more suited and comfortable with acrylic. Carolyn Jeffers says "I will continue painting as long as I am able and/or creating with my hands as that is one of my joys in this life." From a September 7, 2023 John Leben press release:
This apocalyptic painting is a sobering vision of what our world may look like in 50 years if we don’t get a grip on Global Warming. Conceived and created in 2023, "It's Come to This" has hit the art world by storm. Right out of the gates it has been accepted at three major art exhibitions this Fall. The biggest version of this piece, a massive seven foot tall by 10 foot wide triptych is destined for the Fountain Street Church for Grand Rapids ArtPrize running September 14 - October 1. The same digital painting, in a smaller 36x36 inch size, has coincidentally been chosen for exhibit at two other area shows; the 94th Michigan Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Muskegon Museum of Art, September 28 - November 8 and the 2023 Holly Palmer Memorial Art Exhibition of Michigan Artists at the Holland Area Arts Council October 6 - November 11. For the first time ever, I am offering Limited Edition prints of this new work before the original piece starts its exhibition tour this Fall. Square Format Limited Edition Prints are now available online in various sizes, media types and framing options. To own the first print in the edition before ArtPrize even begins is a highly coveted collectors item. After all, true collectors love when the art on their wall tells a unique story. Edition numbers will be assigned in the order the purchases are made. Shop “It’s Come to This” Please note: The large scale triptych will be available for purchase after ArtPrize at the beginning of October. Please contact me directly at jleben@lebenart.com to discuss pricing and installation options for your space. Carrie Andrews is the Featured Artist at J. Petter Gallery this Saturday, September 2.
