Poetry Is Art Is Poetry: A Conversation With Artist Dawn Stafford and Poet Jack Ridl.
The program is at the Saugatuck Douglas District Library on Wednesday, September 14. There will be a Meet and Greet at 6:00 with the program beginning at 6:30. It is is free and open to the public.
Dawn and Jack can be described as “lyrical artists.” During this conversation they will explore and reveal the ways their sensibilities and visions more often that not result in works that evoke the other’s medium: Dawn’s paintings inviting a lyrically poetic response; Jack’s poems inviting a lyrically visualized interaction. They will welcome the audience to enter the conversation at any time. As in the studio, let’s create an insightful and delightful time together.
Jack Ridl is Poet Laureate of Douglas. He is the author of 14 books including national award-winning collections of poetry. The Carnegie Foundation named him Michigan Professor of the Year; more than 100 of his students are published authors.
Originally from New York, Dawn Stafford earned her BFA at Swain School of Design in Massachusetts in 1991. In 2000, she moved to Saugatuck, and started painting full-time. Soon after, she purchased and renovated the historic Peachbelt Schoolhouse for her new studio. Over the years Dawn has created hundreds of oil paintings inspired by her connection to the natural landscape and timeless waters of the lake. She is a dedicated and prolific artist whose signature style has captured the attention of collectors, both regionally and nationally.
