September 2021 SDAC Member Program
Encaustic Artist Ruth Crowe
Wednesday, Sept. 8, 6pm at Saugatuck Douglas District Library
A few words about the program from Christa Wise
Dear Art Club friends, I met Ruth Crowe for the first time a few days ago to discuss the next S-D Art Club meeting in September. As I am wont to do, I forgot to check my calendar that morning and arrived at Isabel’s 20 minutes late feeling frazzled and quite contrite about making a terrible first impression. When I connected with Ruth, she apologized for being late and said she hoped she had not kept me waiting too long. I liked her immediately. Ruth works in encaustic which is an ancient medium using wax to carry pigment. This is the link to her website: https://www.ruthcroweartist.com/ and at right are a few images from her Water Street Gallery website (https://waterstreetgallery.com/artist/ruth-crowe). I love them. Ruth had just led a program for the History Center at the new library, so she was familiar with the space. She said she would bring some examples of her work and would get right to leading us in a workshop to explore her process. She asked for us to sign-up for the session, so she could bring enough materials and also send participants a list of things to bring. “A small list,” she said, “mostly pretty paper napkins and maybe some ephemera…nothing to buy.” So, please email me at [email protected] to sign up. Please know that if you do not want to “make” something, you are welcome to watch the process, meet Ruth, and you do not have to sign up ahead of time. Just come; no sign-up necessary. As usual, we will have a Meet and Greet at 6:00 followed by the mini-workshop from 6:30 to 8:30. Mark your calendars for this fun event on Wednesday, September 8th at the Saugatuck Douglas District Library. Enter the library from the patio on the west side of the building. See you there.
