SDAC member Carrie Andrews has a new solo show at Gallery 602 in Holland Hospital. Her paintings are largely abstract in acrylic and mixed media. The show is open to staff, patients and their visitors, and will be up until September 30th, thanks to Paulette Carr, curator and Holland Friends of Art. The exhibition here, within contains profound layers of the unseen world on a large scale through Hefferan’s woven textiles. Mirroring the infinite details and complexities under the microscope, some of the titles of here, within are written out in amino acid chains continuing to highlight awareness between art and science.
SDAC board member Priscilla Lynch writes, "This is a good local show to be in with prizes and sales… the church even buys a piece every year!" Celebration of the Arts began in 1972 as part of the Music and Arts Ministry of First Church. In its 48th year, Celebration has grown to represent one of the largest juried sacred art shows in the country. It features artists from throughout the Midwest in a variety of media including oils, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, fiber, photography, and more. During the festival, there are many individual events including concerts, drama, and art activities.

Susan Day Martell is inspired by the beauty of her surroundings in her own flower garden in Douglas. Largely self-taught, she has also studied with other contemporary artists around the country. Her medium is both oil and acrylics. Painting since 2011, in recent years she has been concentrating on honing her skills in photorealism with her animal portraits and floral art. She has been selected for the "Top Twenty" of Holland's Tulip Time Art in Bloom competition for the last three years. Her work has also been selected for many regional art exhibitions and is in private collections around the country.
