The Saugatuck Douglas Art Club is announcing another MEMBER ONLY opportunity! A Holiday Market! When: Saturday, November 30th from 11am to 4pm. Where: The Saugatuck Woman’s Club 303 Butler Street, Saugatuck, 49453 What: an indoor Holiday Market featuring 12 Art Club Member Vendors. Members will have a limited space of either a 5ft round table or 6ft rectangle table with room for one grid display or easel (grid or easel provided by vendor). We will be using tables already at the Woman's Club. You can request which type of table, but it is not guaranteed. Artists will be told which table they have when slots fill, prior to the event. Artist vendors should have items that are appropriate to sell at a Holiday Market. Artists will process their own payments and must be responsible for their own set up and sales. THERE IS NO FEE FOR THIS EVENT! This is a benefit sponsored by the Saugatuck Douglas Art Club for our members. Deadline for participation request is November 16th. Space is limited! Georgia O’Keeffe Maryjo Lemanski, Former Director of Education at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts invites you to travel to Chicago to see the blockbuster exhibit “My New Yorks”. September 20 “This exhibition is the first to seriously examine O’Keeffe’s paintings, drawings, and pastels of urban landscapes, while also comparing them to her other compositions of the 1920s and early 1930s.” Maryjo will guide you through “My New Yorks” with discussions and insight to many of the works. We will take the Amtrak in Holland Pier Marquette 370 leaving at 6:47 am and arriving at Union Station in Chicago at 9:08 am The Pier Marquette 371 leaves Chicago at 6:30 pm and arrives in Holland at 10:30 pm. Saturday, Sept. 14th, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Please join us to show and sell art (artists keep all proceeds) during the Lakeshore Harvest Ride, benefitting the Friends of the Blue Star Trail. This event features 600 cyclists stopping for lunch and shopping at the Glenn Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 14th from 10 am. -2 p.m. Concierges will be available throughout the route to deliver purchased items to the finish line. This is a great opportunity to sell your work with no added costs to you. However, each artist must provide their own display set up and chair. Art club member Holly Willson is pleased to announce she will be participating in an exhibit at Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven for the month of August. Iris “When everything’s made to be broken” watercolor batik The exhibit, titled “State of Mine”, features Michigan - inspired works created by the the three artists, who first met while attending “plein air” paint-outs in the dunes along the lakeshore. The Michigan themed exhibit includes pastel landscapes and batik works by Holly, pastel landscapes by Ann Trowbridge and oil landscapes and Pottery by Lynne Boezaart.An informal reception will be held Friday August 9th 5:30 to 7:30. Quilts represent significant hours of labor and often became heirlooms, passed through generations of family. Quilts: The Artistry of Home showcases a selection of quilts from the Michigan State University Collection that were made during the early 20th century, with a focus on the era of the Great Depression. Register your quilt with the MSU Quilt Index! Forms will be available online prior to the event. Representatives from the MSU Quilt Index will be at the museum to assist in completing the forms. The event is free and will be held in the museum auditorium. If you wish to go into the galleries, please purchase an admission ticket in the gift store. Join John Fleming as he shares his passion for nature/wildlife photography which he has pursued for the past forty-five years. As a Life Member of the Michigan Audubon he will share his field experiences and observations captured from early spring through early summer. His primary focus will be on birds with an occasional view of mammals. Three geographic regions will be covered in this program: Florida, Southern Michigan and North Park, Colorado. These areas provide a variety of habitats and the images will reflect his observations of a wide range of bird behavior.
True to form birds in migration offer a myriad of photographic opportunities as do the courtship and mating behavior of his winged subjects. Most of his migration images are right here in Michigan. In addition to the courting and mating behavior, we will have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of nest site activities and foraging techniques in diverse environments. As an experienced photographer John will also share tools and tips for identifying birds and capturing beautiful images. The Premier is happening March 20th at the Open Projector Night film festival at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids. This 12 minute film is the result of the club's enthusiastic response to my Pecha Kucha presentation in the fall of 2022. The film was completed in January and in our first weeks of sending it out to film festivals, to our utter amazement, it has been selected to show at Open Projector Night, Grand Rapids and has won two international awards!!
