 Quilt making is a traditional art form that blends artistry with craft and function. Quilts represent significant hours of labor and often became heirlooms, passed through generations of family. Quilts: The Artistry of Home showcases a selection of quilts from the Michigan State University Collection that were made during the early 20th century, with a focus on the era of the Great Depression. Register your quilt with the MSU Quilt Index! Forms will be available online prior to the event. Representatives from the MSU Quilt Index will be at the museum to assist in completing the forms. The event is free and will be held in the museum auditorium. If you wish to go into the galleries, please purchase an admission ticket in the gift store.  Join John Fleming as he shares his passion for nature/wildlife photography which he has pursued for the past forty-five years. As a Life Member of the Michigan Audubon he will share his field experiences and observations captured from early spring through early summer. His primary focus will be on birds with an occasional view of mammals. Three geographic regions will be covered in this program: Florida, Southern Michigan and North Park, Colorado. These areas provide a variety of habitats and the images will reflect his observations of a wide range of bird behavior. True to form birds in migration offer a myriad of photographic opportunities as do the courtship and mating behavior of his winged subjects. Most of his migration images are right here in Michigan. In addition to the courting and mating behavior, we will have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of nest site activities and foraging techniques in diverse environments. As an experienced photographer John will also share tools and tips for identifying birds and capturing beautiful images. The Premier is happening March 20th at the Open Projector Night film festival at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids. This 12 minute film is the result of the club's enthusiastic response to my Pecha Kucha presentation in the fall of 2022. The film was completed in January and in our first weeks of sending it out to film festivals, to our utter amazement, it has been selected to show at Open Projector Night, Grand Rapids and has won two international awards!!

The exhibit includes textile work by Sue Clarke, Lin Culver, Joan Duggan, Kathy Forzley, Jennifer Gould, Marilyn Greenlee, Elaine Hengen, Linda Ippel, Cyndi Len, Kim McDermott, Eileen Urbanski, and Linda Walburn. Pieces include both 2-D and 3-D forms in felting, quilting, textile figures and dolls, knitting, and embroidered collages. Exhibit gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm ONLY.  The 38th Annual LowellArts West Michigan Art Competition highlights outstanding artwork by Lower West Michigan artists who reside in a 25-county region. Artwork in any visual art media can be submitted by artists 18 yrs. and older. Artists may submit one piece for consideration by the juror.

Resthaven Care Center in Holland, MI will be hosting a photography competition and exhibit in February 2024. The goal is to capture the beauty of West MI and the lakeshore and bring it inside for our Residents. The competition has no barriers of entry while also providing some reward and recognition to the photographers.

Our first guest speaker will be Paulette Carr. Many of us know Paulette, as she has become a vibrant force in our art community. Paulette wears many hats, as the creative whirlwind, that she is. One of those hats is our very own committee head of Gallery 602, along with Carol Kreher and Christi Dreese, with whom she shares the duties of the Holland Hospital gallery . The tentative subject of her talk will be the importance of getting and staying involved, in our/your communities, by way of the arts.  Open Studio—December 13th at St. Peters Church
Rev. Evelio Ramirez of St. Peters Catholic Church in Douglas invites the community to paint nativity scenes from different cultures on Wednesday, December 13th from 3-7 p.m. The exhibit featuring backgrounds painted by Rev. Ramirez will be on display at St. Peters from December 9th-18th. Visit the church website for more information. Please bring your paints and easels (and a tarp if necessary to protect the carpet) for an afternoon of inspiration and creativity. Chairs provided. Cookies and coffee will be served.
